12/31/21 IT NEVER GETS OLD

12/31/21 IT NEVER GETS OLD

During my Bible college days, I kept pocket sized Scripture with me all the time. It was my sword for spiritual battle, my map for my spiritual journey, it was light for those lost in darkness, it was food to feed my hungry soul. I read it as I moved about, road the bus, waited in line, waited for friends, waited for service, waited while doing laundry, eating my meals.

I focused a great deal of energy on the writings of Paul to Timothy and Titus, since it was God's word to young pastors.

Here is one of those passages I thought about on a regular basis.
2 Timothy 4:1-4
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

I still go back to this passage, though I am no longer a young pastor. I have aged, I have changed, but God's word is the same yesterday, today and forever. God's word, like God Himself, changes not. Not only is it still true, it is more evidently true today than when I first read it.
