12/02/21 THE WAY TO GOD'S REST

12/02/21 THE WAY TO GOD'S REST

It takes initial and continued faith and obedience to enter both the "REST" (Matthew 11:28),

Which comes at the time of conversion, and the "PROMISED REST" (Hebrews 4:1-2)

Which comes to believers at the time of full consecration.

God requires consecration (dedication, commitment) from us if we are to receive His forgiveness, cleansing, life, love, peace, joy, rest (Romans 12:1-2).

God not only calls us to Rest and Promised Rest, He enables us to live in a constant state of trust, confidence (Hebrews 10:38).

Though Satan wants to destroy, deceive and rob us of God's provision (John 8:44),

God enables us to keep the single eye (Luke 11:34-35),
Bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5),
Walking in the light (1 John 1:7),
All of which are natural for believers
AND will keep us in the love of God (Jude 1:21)
AND will keep us from being unfruitful in our walk with Jesus (2 Peter 1:1-11).

Consider...
REST
Matthew 11:28
(28) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

PROMISED REST
Hebrews 4:1-2
(1) Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
(2) For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

TOTAL COMMITMENT
Romans 12:1-2
(1) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
(2) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

THE SAVED LIVE BY FAITH
Hebrews 10:38
(38) Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

SATAN A MURDERER AND A LIAR
John 8:44
(44) Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

SINGLE EYE
Luke 11:34-35
(34) The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
(35) Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

THOUGHTS CAPTIVE TO CHRIST
2 Corinthians 10:5
(5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

WALKING IN THE LIGHT
1 John 1:7
(7) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

KEEP YOURSELF IN LOVE OF GOD
Jude 1:21
(21) Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
CONTINUING IN FAITH PRECLUDES UNFRUITFULNESS

2 Peter 1:1-11
(1) Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
(2) Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
(3) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
(4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
(5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
(6) And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
(7) And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
(8 ) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(9) But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
(10) Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
(11) For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
