07/15/21 EMBRACING THE CHALLENGE

07/15/21 EMBRACING THE CHALLENGE

From '79 to '86 I lived in my home town of Morehead City and was pastor of The Anchor Church.
We met in a building, which had been a shoe store, located next to First Presbyterian Church on Arendell Street. First Presbyterian now owns and occupies the entire block.
We were a small and new ministry in the area, but God blessed and used us.
We saw a large number of conversions, a very aggressive youth ministry and outreach.
We ran a Bible and Ministry Institute, which produced a number of men for preaching and pastoring, as well as men and women for local church ministries, in at least a half dozen denominations in as many different States.
We were active in resisting the rising tide of Secular Humanism in the godless government schools, to the extent we actively fought against Common Core Curriculum by sending packets of literature to churches all over N.C. and attending session of N.C. legislature to stand against that corrupt curriculum. As a result we were recognized by Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum, a nation wide conservative organization.
We were active in leading community resistance to obscene, vulgar entertainment, which was defeated, though there were leading businessmen and powerful local politicians who favored the devilish sex shows.
I had a local radio program, which featured contemporary Christian music and preaching that addressed social and government ills. This led to a local cable TV program that used the same format. The messages were so pointed that I even received a graphic death threat because of my strong words against Humanistic schooling in the local school district.
We had a very active ministry in the county jail and the Newport prison facility.
There were other issue that we confronted and influenced on a national level.

In other words, we were a small church with a very big influence. Sadly, we did not have the support of local pastors, except for Pastor Howard Knight. He was active in rejecting anti-Christian actions in the school system, as when they penalized students and ridiculed the story of Christ in connection with the school Christmas program.

Here is my point. I would go outside of our building and walk the perimeter of our parking lot, which was very small, and I would pray that God would enable our ministry and help us reach our community for Jesus.

Now I minister in a small Downeast community and I walk the border of my home property, praying that we can reach those who are in need of Christ. We must see ourselves as soldiers of the cross storming the gates of hell, proclaiming Christ as King, as we drive back the prince of darkness.
