07/10/21 THE REAL DREAM TEAM

07/10/21 THE REAL DREAM TEAM

This has nothing to do with basketball (college or professional) and it has nothing to do with the Olympics (past or present). However the term DREAM TEAM is a great name for a group of people in a local church, who are submitting to God and they are dreaming His dream together, concerning God's desire for that local church.

I am not using the word DREAM in the sense of a DAY DREAM. I am referring to the idea that God has a desire for the spiritual, missional, ministry, relational purpose of the local church and He wants His people to be sensitive enough to share that same desire. A basic example is the desire to see everyone saved.
It is expected that the pastor should dream God's dream for the church; but the dream is about the local church, not about the pastor, his personal work, his own desires and plans.

The local church DREAM TEAM should have a clear Biblical view of God, His salvation, His word, His church, the gifts and calling of the church, the spiritual needs of the world (near and far), the resources available and helpful to meet those needs.

There are some areas that the pastor should lead the way in serving God. After all, that is his calling, however, the local body of believers should catch the vision of God and promote the work and ministry of the pastor. The pastor should encourage others, but Spirit filled, God led parishioners should encourage the pastor. The pastor has enough to keep him busy and he leads others in fulfilling God's calling and plan for those people and the local church. But parishioners should be committed to and active in the work of reaching the community.

The DREAM not only involves people, but the resources and tools needed to reach those people. This is why a TEAM is important. The pastor should not have to spend his time and energy on the facilities and each activity that the church has. Parishioners need to be concerned with the tools, the facilities, the programs of the church. They should be dreaming and not simply maintaining the workings of the church.

It is not enough for a pastor to have one or two people DREAMING GOD'S DREAMS with him. He needs a team of people. Being on the DREAM TEAM does not make a parishioner a super saint or a team captain, though it will take a person who is gifted and enabled because of his dedication to God and desire for advancing the message and cause of Christ.
