06/20/21 THE WITNESS OF GOD'S SPIRIT AND HIS WORD IS VISIBLE
The double witness of God is through His word and through His Spirit; not only in word but also in deed. Our lives are generated, enlightened, enabled, formed, conformed, filled, empowered, transformed by His word and His indwelling.
The witness of the Spirit is not simply knowing, but being God's child and doing God's will. The life of the believer, the life of faith, the life of submission, the life of trust, the life of rest, the life of holiness is the witness of the Spirit that we are the children of God.
God gives us an inner, personal witness, but He also witnesses to us that we are His children, that we are new creations in Christ, that we have newness of life because we love God, we trust God, we follow God, we do the will of Go.
To claim to be saved while living in sin is a contradiction, is a blasphemy. We know Christ is our Lord by doing the will of God and not simply because we have a "feeling" that we are saved or because we have "an inner voice" telling us we are saved. The witness of the Spirit and the word is that we not only keep His commandments, but we do that which is pleasing in His sight.
