05/05/21 THE APOSTLES' CREED SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN JUST A LITURGICAL FORMALITY

05/05/21 THE APOSTLES' CREED SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN JUST A LITURGICAL FORMALITY

The Apostles' Creed recaps basic Christian faith, which is under attack today. Sadly it was just a redundant formality for millions of church attenders. It is a good thing to know concisely and also precisely the meaning and importance of this Creed.

The Apostles' Creed is short but covers a great amount of truth, including:

The Eternality of God
The Omnipotence of God
The Tri-unity of God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit)
The Creative Power and Work of God

The Deity of Christ
The Uniqueness of Christ
The Lordship of Christ
The Virgin Birth of Christ (therefore His Deity, Sinless Nature, Human Nature)
The Willing Submission of Christ to Fulfill Prophecy, Suffer Humiliation
The Sacrificial Death of Christ on the Cross
The Promised, Powerful and Physical Resurrection of Christ (God raised Christ, Christ raised Himself therefore Christ is God)
The Ascension of Christ (Resuming His Heavenly Position, Assuming His Intercessory Work, Indicating His Continuing Redemptive Work)
The Return of Christ is Promised (at which time He will Finish His Prophesied Redemptive Work on Earth of Judging the Nations, Establishing and Executing His Earthly reign)

The Person and New Testament Reality of the Holy Spirit
The Holy and Universal Nature of the Church
The Unity of the Body of Christ
The Personal and Experiential Nature of Salvation
The Promise of Completed Salvation.

THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
