01/25/21 CHANGING DEFINITIONS

01/25/21 CHANGING DEFINITIONS

This post may seem to be "a tempest in a teapot," but the tempest is actual and the teapot is the global community.

It is hard to converse intelligently with changing definitions and doublespeak, as the basis of vocabulary and language. This is true in conversations that address religious, political, social or historical issues.

For instance, we may know the meaning of the words, Identity, Christian, Culture, Social, Construct, but when we put these words together in various combinations they may convey totally different ideas than we intend.
This makes all communication difficult, especially written communication because misunderstanding is not easily clarified or quickly rectified in that format. Therefore, a writer needs to take the time and space to make his message clear, which is not easily done and not always accomplished. Being precise and concise is somewhat a science and an art form.

The importance and dangers become stark in the study of God (theology) and beliefs (doctrine). The cults are notorious for twisting Christian terms to mean something other than their actual, accepted and historical meaning. Scripture twisting is used to mislead people concerning Biblical truths. The level of Biblical knowledge and spiritual depth of the hearer determines the sophistication of the Scripture twisting needed to lead them astray.

The simple gospel does save people, but a spiritual simpleton is easily deceived. We get saved by believing the basic truth of Christ dying for our sins and resurrecting physically for our justification, but our growth in grace and knowledge requires a study of the whole counsel of God. An infant is a viable human being, but a mature adult is a productive human being. This is true in the spiritual and Bible world as well.
