11/24/21 (a closer look at) I AM CAMPING IN CANAAN'S LAND and VICTORY IN JESUS

I AM CAMPING IN CANAAN'S LAND

A closer look at this great song, which recognizes the victories God promised to those who leave the land of Egypt (sin) and cross from the wilderness journey into the Promised Land of Christian victory and spiritual fulfillment.

People confuse the life of victory, which God promised to those who follow Christ fully, with life in heaven. The Promised Land in the Old Testament does not represent heaven. It represents the victorious and established life of a follower of Christ, beyond their Wilderness wanderings. The struggles that a converted person has with his own inner rebellion, doubt, fear and attachments to the world are conquered by those who trust Christ for full deliverance by the infilling and indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Entirely Sanctified life is as much of a mystery to the saved person as the saved life is to the unsaved person.

But just as a sinner enters into eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ, so the believer enters into the life of perfect love, fullness of joy, undiluted confidence.

Read the lives of outstanding, victorious Christians. They talk about a time in their Christian life that they came to a point of Total Commitment, Full Surrender, Death to Self.

They may use different terms but they acknowledge a definite and complete consecration. This agrees with the Biblical directive to Surrender All and trust God fully for the enduement of Holy Spirit power and the Holy Spirits purifying the heart of the believer, who has waited for the fullness of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. The evidence of a fully surrendered heart is purity, perfect love and persevering power. Remember, the plan of God was not that the Children of Israel should stay in the wilderness. God's plan was for Israel to reach and settle into the Promised Land. Likewise, God is not simply interested in getting a person to leave sin behind, He intends for the believer to enter into a life of victory and growth and peace and joy and love, far beyond the struggles of the wilderness journey of Carnal Christianity.

I AM CAMPING IN CANAAN'S LAND
E. M. Bartlett (he also wrote, VICTORY IN JESUS)

1 I have left the land of bondage with it's earthly treasures
I've journeyed to the place where there is love on every hand
I've exchanged the land of heartaches for the land of pleasure
I'm camping, I'm camping, in Canaan's happy land

REFRAIN
Every day I'm camping (camping) in the land of Canaan (Canaan)
And in rapture I survey it's wondrous beauty grand (Oh, Glory)
Glory, hallelujah (I have) found the land of promise
(And I'm) camping, I'm camping, in Canaan's happy land

2 Out of Egypt I have traveled through the darkness dreary
Far over hills and valleys and across the desert sands
Thoughts of land that's safe and homeward I shall not go weary
I'm camping, I'm camping, in Canaan's happy land

3 Yes I've reached the land of promise with the saints of glory
My journey ended in a place so lovely and so grand
I've been led by Jesus to this blessed land of story
I'm camping, I'm camping, in Canaan's happy land

VICTORY IN JESUS
1 I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.

Chorus
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

2 I heard about His healing,
Of His cleansing pow'r revealing.
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried, "Dear Jesus,
Come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and bro't
To me the victory.

3 I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing,
And the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory.
